Hello, to The Blue House family!
It’s been almost exactly nine months since I poured my first bar of soap, and I never had any idea that I’d be sitting where I’m sitting right now – with a wee website, a basement full of stock, and an unofficial soap business…not to mention all of you – a following of loyal fans!
So I’ve decided to make the leap and take the next {soapy} step, and with the help of a friend (who you’ll meet soon) I’m going from an “unofficial” soap business to a real, live, official business.
Wheee!
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this. I’m excited by all the possibilities, and by all of the ideas that are keeping me awake at night! Over the coming months, they'll be PLENTY happening at the Blue House.
Some of the things on the ever expanding to do list: I'll be making some changes to the, logo and packaging,building a bigger website and working on a creative way for the Blue House to lend a helping hand to those that need it.
As I mentioned earlier, I never had any idea that my “little hobby” would end me up here. I posted some pictures on Facebook one day of some soap I had made, and before I knew it I was taking orders, just like that. That being said, I never really went through the proper process of pricing my items for sale, because I never really thought that it would be an issue. But here I am, nine months later, and I have to make a few changes.
“Official” businesses come with all sorts of other “official” things, most of which sadly cost money, and is lumped under the big ol’ OVERHEAD column on the spreadsheet. (Spreadsheets…that’s another thing that seems to come with official businesses, and I don’t like them, but I think I better learn to!) All this is a roundabout kinda way of saying that you’ll shortly be seeing our soap prices going up a little. But to be fair, I wanted to give you a little bit of warning. (Consider yourselves free to stock up!)
And, just in case you needed some extra incentive, here’s another reason to stock up - remember when I said we’re going to find ways to give back? Well, we’re starting today. Between now and April 1st (which is when you’ll see our prices go up,) one dollar from every bar of soap purchased will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to help earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.
So get yourselves clean, the healthy natural way, and give a hand up to some people in desperate need all at the same time!
Thank you all for coming with us this far. We hope you’ll stick around…it’s just about to turn into a party, so don’t go away now!
And please know that no matter what road these official doings take us down, that the commitment to clean, all natural soaps made in small batches, with lots of love, will always ALWAYS be our number one priority.
